Road to Recovery
Let’s face it, sometimes we let our best intentions disappear down a rabbit hole of late nights, stressing over deadlines, trying to fit too much into a day and falling back on bad habits for a quick fix of energy to keep us going through our already impossible schedules and demands on our time and focus.
And sometimes we are so caught up in our routines of catching up to a perceived need for perfection (read: acceptance) that we hardly begin to notice that our health is suffering. And one day, we look in the mirror and wonder how we let it get this bad.
You’re not alone, believe me!
But don’t worry, there is help at hand.
Make some time to prioritise you and your health, and start a regime of healthy detoxing – gently and daily – and before you know it you will feel a difference that is worth fighting for!
The simplest and most enjoyable way to detox is to incorporate healthy green juices into your diet – just resolve to replace one of your normal meals with a juice instead.
It’s also important to look for organic ingredients wherever possible – if you have a local farmers market nearby or an organic fruit and veg delivery service in your area, then you are off to a fabulous start. You might have space for a little veggie garden yourself, and if all you have is a sunny windowsill then you already have the makings of a herb garden with real living food at your fingertips!
Check out my recipe below for a Recovery Shot – just run the ingredients through your vegetable juicer and you are ready to rock and roll.
Recovery Shots
Ingredients
handful of kale leaves
two sticks of celery, and include the leaves
half a large or two small cucumbers
two inches of ginger
handful of dandelion leaves (optional)
stalk of lemongrass
handful of watercress
handful of wheatgrass
two green apples
Method
You can pretty much choose anything in season from the list above and even add your own to the list. All of these ingredients will deliver a punch of vitamins and minerals while also assisting your liver in detoxing the inevitable load of chemicals and toxins to which we are all subject from day to day – just remember to go for organic or pesticide free at the very least.
After running the ingredients above through the juicer, add a tablespoon each of cold pressed coconut oil and chia seeds, and mix through. The chia seeds will turn into a gel after about five minutes, so you can vary the consistency by letting it sit if you prefer a thicker juice and one that feels more filling.
As you can see, there are no hard and fast rules on quantities and so on, just experiment, add your own ingredients according to taste and start enjoying increased energy, clarity and better sleep.
