Beware of Labels

Many of us have people in our lives -- family, friends, coworkers, neighbors -- whose choices in life have led them down a dark path of self-destruction, often in the form of substance abuse or other addictions, self-neglect and sorrow, sometimes leading to deep depression or worse. Recently my husband was contacted by an acquaintance who mentioned his good friend had experienced an alcoholic episode that saw him spiraling into a dark place -- darker than usual -- and was distressed as he felt that he should be able to help this friend in practical and tangible ways that...

Playing Above The Line

What does it mean to be "playing above the line"? To me it means having a responsiveness to all the events that occur in my world - behaving as if I can do something about it, even if I choose to do nothing. It gives me a choice in my reactions and ownership of that choice. So you may ask "What is the line, and why is it important?" The line in my world is the line separating cause from effect. If I believe I am at cause for everything in my life, I can at least have the option to...

Say It and See It

'I figured that if I said it enough, I would convince the world that I really was the greatest.' - Muhammad Ali Affirmations are statements that you make to yourself that you wish to be true. This is different to a belief, which is a statement that you hold to be true. Affirmations don’t necessarily have to be believed to be effective, however a belief in the possibility of the affirmation certainly helps it be more effective. Affirmations are underpinned by the belief that what we language, we create in our life, and can be positive or negative. A famous...

Meditation is proving to be the technique of choice for many struggling with chronic pain, as reports and studies come out confirming it as an excellent method for effective pain relief. How does meditation work? One of the most commonly...

Revive, Nurture, Love

An ivadore© Product Review Here at Smart Healthy Women Magazine we get the opportunity to review many products that are marketed as designed to improve health, happiness, beauty and wellbeing. We don’t believe in reviewing products for the sake of it though and instead like to present products we come across that we believe deliver on their promise. Earlier this year I reviewed a new two-in-one tanning signature product from ivadore©, the brainchild of Tanya Felli. And so when I was asked if I would like to review the next line of ivadore© products, the ‘Feature It’ skincare range,...

7 Steps to Living Organic

Research has shown the benefits of adopting a more organic lifestyle over the conventional one that is the staple of most people in the western world. Even so, the task of adopting a completely organic lifestyle can be seen as daunting, expensive and just too damn hard. Many people who recognize the likely benefits of including organic food and other organic products (think personal care and cleaning products) in their lives can fall by the wayside when they try to embrace the change cold turkey and with no going back. I would advocate a different approach: Take baby steps,...
