Live. Die. Repeat.
I love Sci Fi movies.
I went to see the movie “Edge of Tomorrow” two weeks ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I called it end of the world meets groundhog day, and there were some laugh out loud moments. I believe it is so much more than its slogan “Live. Die. Repeat” would indicate, because on the surface it looks no deeper than a video game, not unlike inception where the travel took place inside the mind, and the travellers were able to build any picture (world) they wanted. This is what we are able to do right here, right now without going anywhere, unfortunately most people miss this and believe they are stuck.
Edge of tomorrow, as I see it, relates to a spiritual travel metaphor. The movie had some really cool ideals that said what has always been said about reincarnation, you can learn the spiritual lessons you need to and ascend (travel) to the next level of life, where you no longer have to fight to win.
At the start of the movie Tom Cruise plays a very reluctant Major Cage, a guy who was never trained as a soldier is forced into battle. When he dies on the field after killing an *“Alpha”* being from another planet, he wakes up and the previous day starts again just as he is being enlisted in the fight à la Groundhog Day. Then he repeats the day over and over, each time getting further along before he dies, by simply remembering what happened the last time and changing things a little.
The lessons he learns become the stepping stones to the ones he must master, to finally live through to the end and be able to defeat the aliens. He works with Emily Blunt, who mentors him through training, until he gets to the point where he finally understands he must go it alone to get them both through alive. Not unlike coaching for life skills.
I have come to believe, through my own spiritual lessons on my journey through life is that we are born each lifetime needing to “wake up” Once we do, our jobs are simply to be happy and grow spiritually as much as we can.
I see this over and over with clients I coach. I get to help them understand that what they face right now is not dooms day events, but a chance to see they have the power to travel through this life and grow and discover it's really a spiritual awakening. Just like in the movie, Tom’s character Cage finds out he's got to master these really scary robots, not unlike what we must do about the things we fear the most, in order to survive, grow, and succeed. The only difference is that Cage is aware of everything that came before. When we humans find out we have that gift we can literally start to live as we are meant too.
When you get to have your first awakening, you then have the opportunity to grow beyond your wildest dreams, just as Tom (Cage) gets to move from being scared out of his wits to becoming the saviour of earth. You have that power, you can build on what you have learned in the past, tapping unconsciously, or with vague awareness into the perfect lessons, finally reaching the point of mastery of your mind.
Until then we all Live. Die. Repeat.
