Tomorrow is another day
Question: has every day of your life always been harmonious? If so, I would love to meet you and find out your secret. One word that I cannot ignore in my everyday life is the word ‘challenge’. It can appear in different guises; I may be calling it different names. Let’s stop here and play a game. Can you think of any everyday words that you can use to describe a challenge? Let me name some: hurdle, bump, pain, headache and obstacle. Did you come up with different ones?
“How you cannot always miss that pot hole”
Potholes in pavements or on the road can be annoying. But it is something that we may not be able to avoid at times. Going back to our everyday life, we may set goals and intentions, which can be very nice. It is nice to have clarity about where you want to go; but sometimes along that journey you may be tested. I am very goal orientated, hence why some people describe me as the go-getter! I was working on producing my new podcast show, The Go-Getter Me show and I was facing some challenges, from having a faulty sound system to losing a master copy of one interviews. There was one day where I felt like banging my head, asking “are you playing jokes with me the Universe. What are these challenges about?” Then I was reminded in a conversation that if we did not have those so-called bad days, then we would not appreciate the beauty of the good days.
“Yet, tomorrow is another day”
Have you heard this following line before?
“Tara. Home. I'll go home, and I'll think of some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day”
If you do not recognize this it is from the famous Oscar winning movie Gone with the Wind. The heroine, Scarlett O’Hara, utters these words right at the end of the movie. These words may save your life. You may think that this last statement was a bit strong. But this may be the difference between wallowing in unhappiness or fighting back with zest. It may be a film but it was so true about how sometimes your problems may seem insurmountable at the time. But tomorrow is always a new day, where you can start afresh with new way of looking at the problem.
So how do I deal with challenges?
My favourite motto is, “life is a continuous learning journey”. So no matter how I may feel that I am clued up regarding certain lifestyle issues, there is always going to be a new challenge to face. So I will always be learning about myself, and inner resources. This can simply be seen as your growth. The following are some tips to take into consideration when dealing with a challenge:
1. Be kind to yourself. Do not allow the set back to bring you down.
2. Step away. Sometimes we may get too involved in the situation that we cannot see things clearly. So maybe it is time to go for a walk. Being out in the fresh air and close to nature can make you feel grounded.
3. Have a sense of humour. It is better to laugh, rather than to cry.
4. Ask yourself is there a lesson to be learned here? Should I be considering another tactic? Is there a better way?
5. Opportunity. Think of the challenge as an opportunity.
6. Is there a pattern occurring? Are you noticing that you are encountering this same challenge, time after time? Perhaps you are resisting something.
7. Let it be. This step applies more to when you are facing challenges in personal relationships. Sometimes people are fixed on points, and may not be open or ready to see a new perspective.
8. Are you following one process all the time? Maybe it is time to do things your way, go out of the box and trust your inner guide or instinct.
9. Talk to someone. Get a different perspective. We can sometimes be ‘tunneled’ vision.
10. Have hope; believe that everything will work out.
So next time when you have a difficult day or challenge, think about that line from Gone with the Wind, “*After all, tomorrow is another day*”
