Product Review – Dr Roebuck’s

by Sep 13, 2013

At Smart Healthy Women Magazine, we are always keen to bring you information that will help you to enrich your life, your health and your happiness, and occasionally we will provide information on products that we have used and think they are worthy of comment.

I had the opportunity recently to try out some of the Dr Roebuck's range of skin care products. Read on for our Dr Roebuck's product review.

I have been using the products for a couple of weeks now and am very happy to have found natural products that are also effective.

The Products

The products from the Dr Roebuck's range I have been using are:

PURE: The original Dr Roebuck's formula that was created 30 years ago and has been consistently improved over that time. Apparently the other creams that Dr Roebuck's makes are based on this one product. It is made for sensitive and problem skin.

BUBS & BITS: This product is also a cream and is formulated for use on dry skin and problematic skin conditions such as eczema. The claim is it can be used on any delicate and sensitive skin, particularly baby's skin (eg nappy rash) and adult skin sensitized by waxing and shaving.

TONE: A toner that contains witch-hazel, purified water, glycolic acid, and other ingredients such as aloe vera, grapefruit and peppermint oils.

FACE: Another cream that is based on the original PURE. It claims to be an ultra-hydrating formula that repairs and moisturizes the skin while minimizing wrinkles. Contains Rosehip Oil, which helps towards moisturizing and regenerating cell membranes and tissues. It also contains Vitamin E, Macadamia and Lavender Oils, each for their individual skin enhancing properties.

The Claims

Dr Roebuck's products contain no petrochemicals, parabens, sulphates and other nasties, and no synthetic fragrances or colours.

The products came with ample instructions on their use, and even included a card detailing a helpful ‘Skin Diet‘ listing foods that are skin supporting and enhancing, and a ‘Mini-Facial‘ to give one's skin a lift using the Dr Roebuck's products. I might have to ask the girls over at Dr Roebuck's to write some articles for our readers that elaborate on these topics more as I loved reading them.

The PURE and BUBS & BITS product guidelines advise to apply a thick layer and let the skin do the work of absorbing it. I must admit I was a bit skeptical about this, as the texture of these creams seems quite heavy. Since I have combination skin I was worried that my skin would have an oily glow all day. I needn't have worried though. Even though the creams feel very substantial, my skin behaved admirably and absorbed the cream in minutes, just as I was promised. And at the end of the day, after having makeup and atmospheric buildup of whatever is in the air these days, my skin was not one bit shiny or uncomfortable.

I found TONE to be a joy to use. I had become accustomed to the sting of applying toner to a well-cleansed face in the past, but there was no such discomfort with this product. One look at the list of ingredients put my mind at ease – the ingredients are actually items whose names I recognize so that also was a pleasant surprise.

I don't know if you've actually read a list of ingredients on most of the things you put on your skin these days, but i certainly an eye-opener!

So what is my conclusion?

I would be very happy to recommend these products to anyone who has concerns about their skin sensitivity, especially when you think of what horrors are in most standard beauty products these days.

And a happy bonus is that my skin looks and feels great. The texture has improved enormously and my skin actually looks happier, if that's possible! Knowing that I have not been poisoning my skin and my body (remember what I said above about the skin absorbing all that cream?) also gives me one less reason to stress about health and environmental damage as well.

If you get a chance to try these products or are already using them, leave a comment below – we'd love to hear from you.
