Why You Should Put Yourself First
When will you consciously put yourself first??
Love! We are taught as children by action or by word that we are to please everyone first. Our needs and desires come last. Help everyone out and hopefully when you have a spare moment it will be our turn to do something for ourselves.
To be something or someone for others is draining. So much so that by the time we even recognize it, we are too damn tired to do something we want. It seems we are always running in different directions and chasing our own tails to accomplish what we believe is helping others.
How often do you hear yourself saying I just wish I had more time in the day so I can paint, relax, do something I truly want to do? Next thing you know it is a new day and the one thing you wanted to do for yourself is once again on the back burner, on a low setting waiting for one day that you will have the time to do it. Then you are worried, will that one day ever come?
So when the turning point comes in our lives to put ourselves first, to become self-full then we are looked upon as selfish. It then is seen as an insult to say NO or a reflection upon others and how we are raised that we would ever consider taken our own needs, wants and desires first.
It is time to call bullshit on that!
It is time to do for ourselves and recognize that by putting our own needs first and refilling ourselves then we are actually more present and loving for others in our lives.
Showing love, concern and compassion to oneself is the beginning of the journey to truly understanding and knowing yourself. What are your likes or dislikes? What truly gets you super charged and excited?
Learning to be friends with yourself first will really move you towards your dreams. People just looking at themselves and seeing what makes them happy is so daunting because they have been doing what others thinks they SHOULD for so long they do not know how to stop and look for themselves.
Question your beliefs and assumptions. What serves you best today, and drop the rest like a hot potato. Bring awareness to old patterns and you can ask yourself: Is it true? Is there another way at looking at this?
A lot of what we do is automatic; they are learned habits from family friends and society. Look at a situation with a different frame work Ask am I reacting this way from habit?
Loving yourself is new to a lot of people. Taking care of yourself first actually gives you the ability to look at life differently and start understanding what you truly want to do and how you want to create your life.
Love yourself first!
