Are You Fit For Biz?
Are you ready to give yourself a mind self-exam?
Many women make the decision to take their experiences and their gifts away from the traditional workplace setting and package this awesomeness through the process of starting their own businesses.
A gutsy move?
Yes!
There is nothing more exciting to me than working or speaking with women who said “yes” to this journey, but are all women fit and ready to leave the workplace? Not always, and this is why it is important to give yourself a physical.
Yes, a physical.
I am talking just like something you would experience at a doctor’s office visit, but rather a self-physical of the mind. How can a savvy woman with a vast amount of gifts to share in this world determine if she truly is fit emotionally to embrace this sometimes “pot-holed path” of owning her own business?
Let’s uncover what I call the two pillars to a mind self-exam.
Pillar 1: Are you emotionally athletic?
Dedicated athletes create the time and space to train so they can sustain the ability to be laser-focus in order to achieve desirable results. There is no question as to the goals athletes set for themselves. They train like a pro until they become a pro. They also perform well under pressure and they learn from yesterday’s mistakes, but they do not let the mistakes of yesterday limit them. Long days, sweaty clothes, fears, worries…it doesn’t matter, they push on.
A gutsy gal leaving the workplace must tune into this concept. This is very difficult for those of us who came from a corporate world with status and a strong team under our belt. So how do you tune into this concept? How do you know if you are emotionally athletic to step into this great big world with your authentic product, program, or service? Well, you train like a pro athlete! Take the self-exam below to see if you are emotionally fit, my friend. Be honest.
Are you dedicated to your sport (business or business idea)? All athletes who train are unquestionably dedicated to their sport.
Are you ready to train rigorously? What you know “now” is great, but you need to be a step ahead in your industry, always.
Are you ready to keep your mind in excellent shape? Surround yourself with fresh concepts, “high energy” people, and anything else you can get your hands on to increase your cognitive fitness.
Are you ready to face your competition with a smile and not run in the other direction? People will seem like they have it altogether and they will seem like they are millions of steps ahead of you. If you play into this, you are off your game. Don’t play into competition, play with it.
Be prepared emotionally. Just like a pro athlete, you are going to win some and you are going to lose some. Being emotionally fit for your business is being prepared to pick yourself up off the ground over and over again realizing you needed this fall to meet your goals. It is part of your story, my friend.
Pillar 2: Are you ready to shed your flotation device mentality?
We all know the importance of a flotation device, right? It is meant to keep you afloat. I have yet to go on a cruise, but I know when I do, the first thing I will be in search for will be the quantity of safety flotation devices and equipment. Back to the point, many women cannot seem to shed the constant “replay” in their minds of when things felt safe. The safety of a consistent paycheck, the safety of having an assistant or secretary, the safety of pretty much knowing what your day was going to look like and feel like, the safety of a title, the safety of your workplace identity, and the list goes on and on.
Now, I am not talking about the safety of cash flow to stay in business, I am talking all about your flotation device mentality. When you start to replay these thoughts over and over again, you just “stole” your energy and ability to sustain emotional fitness.
How do you shed this flotation device mentality and stay on the path of being fit for your business?
You take a moment and write down at least 4-6 safety devices you can count on in your business. Here is an example of my safety devices: my family, my home office environment, my skills and abilities, my core values, and my passion. Your turn, are you ready? Feel free to write as many as you want, but at least get to four. Remind yourself you are safe, you are supported and you are not alone.
Now, go out, get gutsy and embrace the world that needs you – prove to them that you are fit for biz!
