Let’s Focus on the Real Issue
The YouTuber, Logan Paul, posted a video yesterday as a response to his recent “suicide forest” video, where he came upon someone who had hung themselves. He was so shocked that he did what I can assume he does when he feels uncomfortable….he was laughing….I could see that he was laughing from the obvious shock of seeing a dead body and his very obviously uncomfortable reaction from this experience…
The world did not take it very well, he had alot of backlash from it and he hid for about 2-3 weeks….
When he released his video yesterday, it was about the seriousness of suicide, which actually opened up a great conversation between my daughter and I not only about his video, but about suicide prevention…which led to, well, prevention of everything (I feel sorry for my kids….a conversation with me is never short….)
As we were talking I could feel myself get more passionate about the prevention of things….the prevention of suicide… the prevention of drugs, the prevention of alcohol abuse, the prevention of cancer, the prevention of wars….etc etc etc…
You can see Mother Teresa's famous quote…if you want to prevent wars, focus on peace instead…
Logan's video opened up something in me that I never knew I was passionate about until my conversation with my daughter yesterday…
We actually know how to prevent ALL of these things….we really do…. but we are focusing on the wrong things…
What you resist, persists…
Our focus on the prevention of things is keeping them REAL!!!!! It keeps them alive…
If we REALLY want to make a difference and change these things, we need to stop looking at the things that we are wanting to change. ITS NOT ABOUT THE THING!!!!
Its what causes the thing that needs to be addressed.
Take our attention away from the “thing” and focus on the cause of the thing….
When we do this, we will achieve success in “preventing” them…..
To “prevent” suicide, we actually need to focus on honesty and truth – first to ourselves, then to others. One man on the Logan Paul interview hit the nail on the head. He had tried to commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge and survived…
He said that honesty and truth needs to change in society for this to change. It's the coping mechanisms and the way we all look at things that needs to change.
If we say to someone “Are you OK?” they aren't going to be honest with you…. They are going to put on the brave smile that everyone does and say “Sure I'm OK.” and that will be that.
Think about it. When someone says “how are you?” most people will say “Fine”… Its an automatic response. And if someone has suicidal tendencies, they are certainly not going to share it. I've been told that those who talk about suicide never really follow through. It's the quiet ones, the ones who DON'T talk about it, and put the “brave face” on for the world that we need to watch. It's the mask that we all hide behind that is creating this. It's the supposed perfection that we are all supposed to have. It's the achieving…it's that perceived “being good”, it's the “should”s and “have to”s, it's the shame that has been taught that creates this. And we are all taught all of this at a very young age…. these are the things that we need to look at..
And for those who commit suicide due to circumstances (financial, relationships, bullying etc) it's the disconnection from help, support and people, that makes them feel like “no one would really care if I wasn't here.” If we could focus on connecting daily with one another; if we could focus, not on uniqueness or separation, but on the ONENESS of our humanity. That we are all in this together rather than on separate paths… If we could provide tools to kids, parents, everyone for free, making them accessible to everyone, rather than those who only speak up or reach out for help… that's what we should be focusing on.
At the end of the day, everyone just wants ONE very simple thing….and one simple thing is what we should be focusing on…
HAPPINESS….INNER POWER……ONENESS….CONNECTION
If we want to combat drugs and alcohol abuse, stop focusing on the drugs… make them accessible to everyone!!! Stop making them illegal (what you resist, persists!!!) Give people the right to be the owners over their own choices!!! Making people more aware of their own feelings, their own truth, their own happiness….Look at why are people taking them and empower them (not make them fearful) into making better choices FOR THEM from a place of SELF LOVE? Focus on why are they needing to escape this world? WHY ARE THEY UNHAPPY?
And if we want to prevent wars, its all about power and fear. Which always comes from an inner feeling of lack of power, which creates internal and external fear of not being safe which, when we create it, it becomes true…. inner unhappiness that is projected out to appear like they are powerful, but those who are truly powerful never ever have to project it….
For us to start to make a difference in our prevention of things, its up to all of us to be the example….
We aren't stupid, in fact we are so smart that we don't know the expansive capacity that we have available to us to understand EVERYTHING that is going on in the world today!! And we ALL know the answers to “fixing” them…
ITS UP TO US!!!
We KNOW what causes cancer….unhappiness, disconnection, lack of inner power, separation….lets be the example of the opposite of that..
We KNOW what causes suicide….unhappiness, disconnection, lack of inner power, separation…..lets be the example of the opposite of that…
We KNOW what causes wars…..unhappiness, disconnection, lack of inner power, separation….lets be the example of that…
Even racism is based around separation….. the need for power from a lack of power…. The war against racism will never be solved if we focus on the racism…. focus on this inner need for people to have power over another…..the fact that we are all ONE here and how you treat others is how you are also treating yourself (and attracting to yourself) and we just might see a difference….
I'm no advocate for any particular cause, and these are just my opinions which I am sure many others will have opposite opinions to…..And thats OK… because we were never meant to have the same opinions….and opinions aren't facts so I have no claim to these things as facts….
But what I know, is what we are currently doing isn't working, so we need to do something different… and I know in my own life when I change the focus from what the issue appears to be, to what it really is about, then it ends up changing..
If we want to make a change, we need to do something different…
We need to Focus on what is the REAL issue….not what it appears to be xooxox
