Three Secrets to Sustaining Your Inner Leader

by Kristin Smith | Jul 1, 2015 | Editor's Pick, Mindset

When you think of the meaning behind leader, I am sure you immediately consider someone you look up to who embraces the role as a leader…but have you ever considered yourself when you reflect upon the word “leader?”

As a savvy woman in leadership for over sixteen years, I can say there is a “disconnect” with women today and their ability to tap into their inner leader.   It has nothing to do with ability and yet has everything to do with their confidence to feel gutsy and command their own inner leader during times of real need.

Let’s talk about you.

Do you feel like a leader when it comes to your work, business, volunteer work, or parental roles? Do you feel like you have that same strength as a leader when it comes to taking charge of you and your own aspirations, dreams, and self-care needs? Let’s figure out a few secrets to help you tap into your inner leader.

Secret #1: Be Honest. A great leader is one who can be trusted. People trust the decisions coming from a leader who never compromises honesty. In order to tap into your inner leader, you need to learn to trust your self-leadership ability. You need to be honest with yourself, so you can learn to trust your instinct and make big and small decisions in life.

Secret #2: Be able to inspire yourself. Yes, great leaders have the natural ability to inspire others and to create a sense of followership. Think of your favorite leader for a moment. Does he or she have a crazy awesome energy that absolutely just propels you forward? Exactly! It is time to know how to inspire yourself with your own words of wisdom. Borrowed inspiration is fabulous and needed, but what about creating your own affirmations, quotes, and “aha’s?” There is nothing more exciting than getting blown away by your own wisdom that ignites your inner leader!

Secret #3: Be committed to yourself. Leaders who are the movers and the shakers of the world are committed. There is never a question about their commitment or motive. How about you? Are you truly committed to your own needs? Are you making yourself a priority? Great leaders know how to prioritize and stay consistent when they make decisions which are meant to lead their teams towards better results.   It is important to tap into your commitment radar and see if there are some settings you may need to adjust. Think of commitment being bigger than staying true to your exercise routines or eating habits. Think of commitment like a marriage. A long term vow to yourself to lead the way towards sustaining the best life you possibly can create because you, my dear, rock as a leader!

Congratulations! You just uncovered three powerful, yet easy secrets to revive your inner leader. Go be bold and stay beautiful!
