The World is Your Oyster
The card of The World is also called The Great One of the Night of Time and is ruled by Saturn. It represents culmination of a major cycle, the realisation of an aspect of wholeness and the beginning of a new journey.
Saturn is the Lord of Time, and is often seen as a very serious and even forlorn figure in astrology and mythology. The truth is, that Saturn gives one the opportunity to find freedom through accepting responsibility for oneself ? there is immense joy and expansion that can be experienced once you discover this for yourself.
When The World appears in a reading for you, it is time to celebrate the completion of a major cycle in your life ? a cycle of learning and travelling from a state of innocence to experience. This is a cycle because there is always something new to learn and a new journey upon which to embark. When we master one skill, if we do not continue our journey of growth, then like all organisms in nature, we atrophy and eventually perish.
Major accomplishments are signified by this card, and yet there is some sadness attending your achievements, because it means saying farewell to a successful phase and then turning your face to the future and the uncertainty inherent in facing new, but no less worthwhile challenges.
“To see the world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wildflower
To hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour” – William Blake
Relationships may be renewed under the influence of The World, and with this renewal brings a deepening understanding and maturity that is different but no less enjoyable.
Travel is also prominent with this card, as it brings the wider world to your doorstep, and you to it. You are willing to embrace a wider perspective, and often this means exploring and embracing new cultures, ideas and territories. This brings much growth and can open your eyes to the boundaries you have been living within while being unaware that there is so much more that you can be experiencing than you have allowed yourself until now.
There is a mystery embodied in this card ? it is a card of endings, to be sure, which means it is also a card of beginnings, because surely from one must come the other? The World represents a successful completion of a cycle ? a place you arrive at where you have learnt the lessons of the journey you embarked on all that time ago, and it will soon be time for a new adventure. But le not get ahead of ourselves here. Now is the time to enjoy your accomplishments, no matter how big or small they may be.
This card lets you know that you are ok, you can deal with whatever life throws at you (which is surely why you chose this road to begin with). Sometimes you need to remind yourself that you can achieve what you aspire to, and not let doubts creep in and ruin your fun and your sense of achievement.
This card also represents the warping of space and time; those of you into quantum physics will understand that time is not linear, it does not start at this dot and end at that, but it is an ever upward spiral that can contain itself in its beginning and its end. It represents the cycle of birth and rebirth, expiration and renewal, another symbol of rising from the ashes of what was and yearning towards and accomplishing what will be.
There is a sense of triumph with this card, synchronicities abound if you let them, and so you feel you are in the right place at the right time. There is nothing to fear, the World and indeed the Universe embrace you and confirm to you that you belong in it.
Importantly, there is the possibility of expanding your philosophies about life and everything in it. The World is your oyster so start exploring! Time to ask yourself ? ?What is my next great adventure??
